In Romans 8:31-39, Paul highlights four truths that God shows us about himself.
First, Paul claims God has given us Jesus along with all things: "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?" (verse 32, NASB). In Jesus' death, God has given us Jesus. Similarly, God gives us all things in Jesus - and guarantees that we have Jesus and all things in him by the very fact of Jesus' death!
Second, Paul claims "God is the one who justifies" (verse 33, NASB). The reason Paul can make this claim is the fact that, if any charge could be brought against us, God is the justifying God who acquits us and declares us innocent!
Third, Paul claims Jesus rescues us from condemnation: "Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us" (verse 34, NASB). It is Jesus' death, resurrection, ascension and ministry at God's right hand, and ongoing work of intercessory and prevailing prayer for us that free us from condemnation - and we know this because, if anyone might want to condemn us, Jesus exonerates and liberates us all the more!
Finally, Paul claims we have the victory through the Father and Jesus: "In all these things [i.e., the hardships of life] we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us" (verse 37, NASB). Nothing can separate us from how much God loves us, not even the difficulties we suffer (verses 35-36), because Jesus has already won and shared his victory with us (verse 37)! This reality is probably why Paul believed there was nothing in heaven or on earth, mortal or immortal, angelic or demonic, that could cut us off from God's love for us in Jesus (verses 38-39).
So friends, what benefit do these four truths about God have for you? The benefit you have is that you can trust God without any fear. God has not only already shown himself extremely trustworthy through the death, resurrection, and high priestly ministry of Jesus; even more than this, God has already showered you with blessings and gifts through Jesus' death, resurrection, and high priestly ministry before you ever thought to ask for them.
